Thinking space
How a change of scenery can spark creativity
Recently I have noticed myself looking forward to my BA long-haul flights even more than usual. Life is crazy busy. Work. Family. New ventures. Just keeping on top of my admin seems huge.
I seek the refuge of a flight to get some thinking space, some quiet, some me time. And once I am through customs, I will want to make all those new ideas that were birthed at 32,000 feet happen.
I had the idea for a book and spin-off business model whilst walking in the hills in Switzerland. What would usually have taken months of hard work became clear in a few hours because the expansive landscape and energetic movement of the trip resulted in expansive and energetic thinking.
The same happens to me and many others on a long journey. The varied stimulus and space to ponder is the perfect antidote to today’s business demands.
If you don’t know what environment works for you, experiment with different ones.I know that if I am stuck on something, I always go somewhere else. Now I am going to go outside.
