SOFITEL MUNICH BAYERPOST
Sofitel is a sleek group offering a genuine sense of place, and the new suites at the Munich Bayerpost could never be described as cookie cutter. Playful and dramatic, all ten are flamboyantly designed by Harald Klein. Oyster is the largest, with a giant LCD screen for guests to view their own digital images or video presentations. Atelier offers a more traditional form of creativity in the form of an entrance hall that acts as a blackboard. Chalk is provided. Doubles from €136, suites from €469, room only, Oyster Suite from €1,613, B&B. sofitel.com

LUTE SUITES
With seven extravagant suites and a River Amstel location within shouting distance of the city centre in the village of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, this is a good choice for corporate bonding. And there’s no arguing over who gets top suite. Marcel Wanders was so taken with Peter Lute’s Ouderkerk restaurant that he designed a hotel around it, on the site of an 18th-century gunpowder factory. The suites are kitted out with fabulous pieces of ‘should I sit on it?’ furniture, including the designer’s knotted chair, on display at New York’s MOMA. Each room has a living and work space, and two boardrooms are available. From €170, room only. designhotels.com

LAPA PALACE
Tucked away in the city’s diplomatic quarter, on one of the city’s seven hills, the Lapa Palace offers a calm vantage point to enjoy this busy city. Up and coming Portuguese group Olissippo recently took it over from Orient-Express, and it’s now the flagship in their fleet.
If you’re looking for a meeting space with a difference, not to mention plenty of fresh air, book the Tower Room, which comes with private access and use of a Rapunzel-like tower, with 360° views of the city and Tagus River. If you need more meeting space, the Royal Suite has a large sitting room and is regally decorated with antiques. Rooms from €370, Tower Room from €1,800 per night, b&b. lapapalace.com

LA RESERVE
It’s a staggering price tag, but for all those euros you’re getting central Right Bank on Place du Trocadero (très BCBG) near the Champs Elysee, plus Eiffel Tower views. No other Parisian suites are as large, and the real genie in the lamp is your very own concierge, with magic wand granting access to booked-out restaurants, concerts and out of hours shopping. He can also set up a meeting, complete with presentation material, in a minute. The suites are restfully taupe on beige, with black wood boxy furniture — think a paint chart titled ‘calm’. The largest has three bedrooms and is 300sqm, which is why some guests stay months. From €1,900 per night, b&b, plus concierge and housekeeper. lareserve.ch
