Warsaw
Mamaison Residence Diana
Fewer than five miles from the airport, this all-apartment hotel features 46 enormous suites (the smallest is 45 square metres) located on a quiet courtyard in Nowy Swiat, near the business district. If you don't want to use your well-equipped kitchen, take advantage of room service
or the Porto 13 restaurant — though the 'Swedish' buffet breakfast might be considered a bit minimal. Alternatively,
the 24-hour concierge will direct you to the nearest restaurant. There are meeting rooms with space for up to 20, and free WiFi. This year is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Chopin, who was born near Warsaw, so expect music wherever you go.

metropolitan
This hotel still claims column inches for the antics in its Nobu restaurant: it's a rare Friday night when the paps aren't outside to snap Sienna Miller or a bevy of Wags. Apartment guests get preferential booking and access to the Met Bar and Como Shambhala Spa. As the minimum stay in an apartment is three months, you'll probably be on first name terms with London's diary editors by the time you leave. As well as first-hand celebrity gossip, you get a fair amount of space for central London, anonymous but comfortable decor (after all, unusual styling could wear thin after the first couple of weeks), and a location that couldn't be more central. metropolitan.london.como.bz

The restaurant with rooms concept is tried and tested,
but Aspria is pioneering a new concept of gym plus hotel. It's part of a chain of state-of-the-art spa and sporting clubs, and the hotel's 39 rooms and three apartments were built when a building came up for sale next to the existing gym. The ethos throughout is health, and designers worked to the brief of 'immersive cocoon' to create rooms designed to maximise light, with gold headboards, frosted glass bathroom walls and large windows. The apartments have kitchenettes, sofa beds and dining tables, and bathrooms have tubs and showers. The two conference rooms accommodate up to 25.

Copenhagen
Adina Apartment Hotel
Many guests book into the Adina to get as much for their money as possible in one of Europe's most expensive cities, and this new-build apartment hotel delivers more than you'd expect. There's a pool and small gym, free WiFi in the lobby, and the option of doing your own laundry and preparing meals in the well-stocked kitchen.
The restaurant isn't bad value, particularly breakfast which is usually included, and delivers a classic smorgasbord, fruit and pastries. To feel even more of a local, hire a hotel bike.
You might need to — the hotel is in the harbour area, ideal for gawping at the Little Mermaid statue, but a 25-minute walk from downtown Copenhagen. adina.eu
